On November 7th, there’s going to be a ballot question about whether or not to change the name of Dover Township to Toms River. Yesterday, the Associated Press released a list of the 25 safest and 25 least safe cities in the US. Brick, one town up from us, got first place in the former. Dover Township got 14th, but the AP reported it as “Dover” – which is the much smaller town in Morris County, so our own Ocean County Observer devoted a huge amount of space to Brick’s ranking, without a mention of Toms River’s standing in the article. I think they were confused, too. I sent them a letter to the editor – I hope it gets in before the 7th.

I saw the letter to the editor in the Ocean County Observer this morning. I’ve not sure how long it will be online, but you can view it at http://www.ocobserver.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061102/OPINION/611020325/1014
The name change passed:
Dover Township will become Toms River Township at the next town council meeting.
