Hey, Maytag!

I don’t think anyone from Maytag is checking up on things here, but I know a lot of customers and potential customers are. So, everyone, here’s some Maytag dishwasher updates:

My mom’s Maytag, about five years old, bit the dust. So did my friend Gayle’s. Forgot how old her was, but not old enough to die like that. Mine? Well, besides the same old crap, the piece that runs along the back and over the top rack won’t stay put, because the ingenious clip that’s supposed to hold it won’t stay clipped. We’re hoping duct tape will hold for a while and not mess up the dishes too much. The bottom half of the upper wash arm broke off. The plastic clips got brittle and broke. We ordered the replacement part, but this won’t be going on too long. You’d think that the plastic they used for moving parts inside a dishwasher would be a kind that stood up to heat and movement, but I guess Maytag didn’t. We’re just keeping it going until we can afford to replace it.

… and from what I understand, the Kenmore we replaced the Maytag with is really a GE. My step mom has a GE that I fell in love with … so far, I’m lovin’ this one too.

There is only so many things duct tape can fix and then only for so long … repalce it and give yourself one less thing to grouse about!

Kenmore is one of those ‘brands’ that is hard to figure out.

Most Kenmore labeled stuff is made by Whirlpool (which bought and ruined Maytag a number of years ago), while wikipedia says that Kenmore dishwashers are made by Electrolux (who also makes Westinghouse among other brands) or Fridigaire (which is also listed as an Electrolux brand on yet another wiki entry)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenmore_Appliances

I found a appliance parts page that says:

    Whirlpool and Sears-Kenmore Dishwasher Parts:

    * Sears dishwashers with a 665. model number prefix are manufactured by Whirlpool.
    * Sears dishwashers with a 587. model number prefix are manufactured by Frigidaire.
    * Sears dishwashers with a 363. model number prefix are manufactured by GE.

so you can see if the salesman provided accurate information…..

To get rid of the duct tape, I have to disassemble the water assembly, then cement the bracket to the tub — that should eliminate the need for the duct tape.

The replacement top water arm arrived yesterday and snapped right into place.

If we replace the dishwasher, the refrigerator, stove and dryer will become jealous and want to be replaced too!

Damn those jealous appliances … fie on thier electric emotional attachments … you’ll just have to teach them then how to play nice with others.

But didn’t you replace the washer? Maybe the dishwasher IS jealous!!!

Let’s see about that prefix … he was correct! a GE it is. What a good man he was. :o ]

I’m very happy to hear that your dishwasher is made by GE. Alison’s parents also purchased a Kenmore — hopefully their’s is also made by GE.

Yes, we did get a new washer. The old one was jealous of the ‘new’ dishwasher — we installed it shortly after moving in, so it is not even 3 years old yet….
